"If you start with character, you probably will end up with good drawings."-Chuck Jones

The Chuck Jones documentary on Friday I believe was very interesting and educational. It really makes you want to animate. It taught me about how important a good character is in an animation. Even if that means making a dot and a straight line have character. These are some of my notes from the documentary:
- Early animations by Chuck Jones were said to be "aggressively cute" and he was critised because of their likeness to Disney.
- With his animation "The Draft Horse" he realised he could get great laughs out of an audience and develpoed his own style. (Comedy)
- Abstract background designs believable with the way the character moved within.
- He used "smear drawings" in his animations to express speed and movement. (often called "limited animation") This is especially seen in "Dover Boys"
- Responsible for Warner bros characters such as Pepe Le Pew, Marvin the Martian, Coyote and Road Runner.
- Influenced character such as Bugs Bunny (wise guy, everything Mickey wasn't) and daffy Duck (Always screws it up).
- Timing: Everyone knows what's going to happen. Chuck builds the anticipation till the last min.
- Character Expression brings the character to life. (minimalist, in the eyes)
